We love AI coding assistants. But we didn’t love sending telemetry to third parties, being locked into a single provider, or having no control over the underlying model.
So we built SANDCODE — a fully independent, private AI coding companion that runs on z.ai’s GLM-5.1 model.
Why build it?
We wanted a tool that puts developers first:
- Privacy by default — all telemetry disabled, your code stays on your machine
- Provider independence — bring your own API key, use any compatible provider
- Open source freedom — MIT licensed, fork it, customize it, make it yours
What’s inside?
The core is built from the ground up:
- Vendored SDK — zero external dependencies
- Default provider set to z.ai with GLM-5.1
- All telemetry disabled — metrics, feedback, transcript sharing are no-ops
- Distinct visual identity: amber/gold theme, diamond icon, building-themed verbs
- Auto memory, recipe system, and plugin support
Everything that makes it great — the REPL, the tool system (Bash, Edit, Read, Write, Grep, Glob), MCP support, hooks, slash commands — all production-ready.
Try it
Get a z.ai API key at docs.z.ai and start coding.
Welcome to SANDCODE. Let’s forge something.
